The Reading Buddy Program was created by Mattie Joyce for her Girl Scout Gold Award. Reading Buddies is a reading program where kids come and read to the animals of their choice. This program benefits both the animals and the children. FOSS animals get the human interaction they need to come out of their shells and become more comfortable around people. The children benefit from reading to the animals by allowing them to have fun reading and become more confident in their reading skills. Animals are great listeners! They won’t judge when the kids are struggling or make a mistake.
